{"id":7728,"date":"2022-01-06T16:13:48","date_gmt":"2022-01-06T16:13:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lalicup.com\/?p=7728"},"modified":"2025-03-17T11:36:53","modified_gmt":"2025-03-17T11:36:53","slug":"women-dont-bleed-blue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lalicup.com\/hr\/2022\/01\/06\/women-dont-bleed-blue\/","title":{"rendered":"WOMEN DO NOT BLEED BLUE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If I ever <strong>checked my <a href=\"https:\/\/lalicup.com\/hr\/shop\/lalicup-red\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LaliCup<\/a> menstrual cup and saw blue fluid<\/strong> instead of red blood, I think I would have a mini heart attack!<br><br>So why do so many sanitary product manufacturers <strong>feel the need to use blue liquid<\/strong> when denoting menstrual <strong>blood<\/strong>?<br><br>What is so disgusting about this <a href=\"https:\/\/lalicup.com\/hr\/2021\/10\/06\/ever-wondered-how-ancient-greeks-saw-periods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>red colour <\/strong><\/a>that compels ad makers to use a vibrant blue colour that is not naturally occurring in a human body at all?<\/p><p><strong>Advertisements<\/strong> for period products are often silly and <strong>unrealistic scenarios<\/strong>, portraying women dancing around in their compulsory white trousers having the best time of their lives.<br><br>It is hard to imagine these ads were<strong> written by people who have heard of cramps <\/strong>and other discomforts during menstruation let alone had periods themselves. However, for many, these ads are an <strong>important and often the only source of information<\/strong> on this topic.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"563\" height=\"341\" src=\"https:\/\/lalicup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/b70d3dce-1a6b-6ef0-f29b-8e4e5d45496c-1.png\" alt=\"Women do not bleed blue!\" class=\"wp-image-7730\" title=\"Women do not bleed blue!\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lalicup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/b70d3dce-1a6b-6ef0-f29b-8e4e5d45496c-1.png 563w, https:\/\/lalicup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/b70d3dce-1a6b-6ef0-f29b-8e4e5d45496c-1-416x252.png 416w, https:\/\/lalicup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/b70d3dce-1a6b-6ef0-f29b-8e4e5d45496c-1-300x182.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 563px) 100vw, 563px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>Such advertising reaches a huge audience and has the power to <strong>either spread stigma<\/strong> and shame around menstruation <strong>or to inform and empower<\/strong> viewers about the reality of periods.<\/p><p>The ubiquitous blue liquid used in many an ad sends <strong>mixed signals to young people <\/strong>about what periods are. Not to mention that it subtly <strong>suggests period blood is too disgusting<\/strong> to show on TV.<\/p><p>Isn\u2019t it <strong>ironic<\/strong> that you could watch a commercial break with \u201cblue period blood\u201d and after that, you would continue on watching a show &#8211; sports, medical dramas, action or <strong>horror films \u2013 where blood<\/strong> (yes, the normal kind) is an <strong>everyday occurrence.<\/strong><\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"554\" height=\"366\" src=\"https:\/\/lalicup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/824af9b7-a765-5a8a-f603-ee931fcb65e1.png\" alt=\"menstrual cup and blue fluid\" class=\"wp-image-7731\" title=\"menstrual cup and blue fluid\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lalicup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/824af9b7-a765-5a8a-f603-ee931fcb65e1.png 554w, https:\/\/lalicup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/824af9b7-a765-5a8a-f603-ee931fcb65e1-416x275.png 416w, https:\/\/lalicup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/824af9b7-a765-5a8a-f603-ee931fcb65e1-300x198.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" \/><\/figure><\/div><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p>I would argue that even bigger issue regarding period representation than a silly blue dye in commercials, but this is a can of worms that we will save for another time.<\/p><p>Do not get me wrong, I am not advocating for period blood to be blasted onto every photo, every commercial and conversation we have\u2026 but <strong>we do have to take the opportunity to speak about our bodies<\/strong> &#8211; what is normal and what is not \u2013 and maybe things will gradually <strong>change<\/strong>, and the information <strong>will not be given through the lens of the blue dye of shame<\/strong>.<\/p><p>What do you think about this topic?
